ARCH

Arch (2017)

Performance

Duration: 12 minutes

It’s fitting that the highly circulated quote, “Writing about music is like dancing about architecture,” has no stable source. Dozens can be cited, including a list of illustrious musicians—Costello, Zappa, Monk—voicing the difficulty of brining music to words., but what about this relation between dance and architecture? Let’s imagine bodies create space(s) that are molded, bent, and vibrated into life by the bodies that travel through, with, or against them. This is the dance of architecture. Let’s think of the effervescent body of the dancer as a luminous architecture. Stripped of weight, density, and the rigor to stand still indefinitely, this architecture might be slight, in the most moving sense.

Illuminated through contact and proximity, breath and sensation, these are dancerly architects… as are you.
