BODY / MEMORY
Performance, bus tour, party
Duration: 2 hours
Collaboration with dance artist Jessie Gold (NYC)
Choreography: Biba Bell and Jessie Gold
Music: Ivan Berko
Production: Naomi Fisher and Bas Fisher Invitational
BODY FACTORY is a dance performance collaboration between Biba Bell (Detroit) and Jessie Gold (NYC/Miami). Music is scored by Ivan Berko (NYC). The performance takes place in multiple locations of which are only partially disclosed. With dance happening in a location that is not familiar or easy to get to, BODY FACTORY means to take the public on an aesthetic, perceptual, and geographic journey. A garden party, a sculptural installation, a theatrical dance event, a night on the town, BODY FACTORY enters Detroit with an ear to the transitory immediacy available sans digital gps, when arrival takes place by letting the body be present with one's self and each other. BODY FACTORY draws inspiration from Detroit's rich history in music and dance, and the scavenger hunt-like events that took place in the techno and rave scene culture.
BODY FACTORY is part of BFI's Knight Art Challenge Grant for programming which raises the profile and importance of artist run galleries and artist initiated projects by hosting artist swaps where shows and artists from Miami will be exchanged with galleries and artist initiated projects around America and abroad.
BODY FACTORY is made possible with the support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Bas Fisher Invitational (Miami), and The Maintenance Room (Detroit).
