Nick Cave Dequindre Cut Dance Lab

Nick Cave Dequindre Cut Dance Lab (2015)

One of three Dance Labs for visual artist Nick Cave’s Here Hear: Detroit exhibition at the Cranbrook Art Museum. For this performance, a one-week residency brought together Bell (choreography), composer Frank Pahl, a group of dancers and a large box filled with Cave’s iconic sound suits and sculptural objects. The residency, held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) commenced with the reveal of Cave’s chosen objects and culminated in a 40 minute piece made for the Dequindre Cut, a former railway line turned bike and walking path in downtown Detroit. The piece was later condensed to a 10 minute version and performed at the Masonic Temple for the finale of Cave’s exhibition and event series.
